EARLY FALL WREATH AND GIVEAWAY

Sunflower and fall are a perfect match! While many summer flowers are fading, those big moppy heads of bright yellow are at their peek!

Don't you wish their beauty could last longer? Well, they can!

The kind people at THE WREATH DEPOT sent me this gorgeous early fall wreath. Actually, they let me choose the wreath ... and I just couldn't resist the SUNFLOWER SUNSET WREATH!

They also agreed to give one StoneGable reader this very same wreath ... how generous!

It looks so colorful and striking on my blue door!

The sunflowers, quince slices and golden caspia are so vibrant they can easily be seen from the road!

The addition of the lavender is a lovely french touch... it reminds me of Provence!

This wreath is so full and lush...

All the dried flowers on the wreath came in perfect condition! The sunflowers are extraordinary!

A BIG thanks to THE WREATH DEPOT. I'm sure I'll enjoy this lovely everlasting wreath for years!

POINSETTIAS IN THE SNOW~ 2013 HOLIDAY DESIGN CHALLENGE

I'm getting an early jump on Christmas decorating this year thanks to HOMETALK and  LAMPS PLUS !

As a part of their 2013 HOLIDAY DESIGN CHALLENGE I was asked "how would you fill and decorate this lamp"?
What fun!!!!

hometalk-lamps-plus-holiday-design-challenge.jpg-550x0

With Christmas music blaring and thought of sugarplums dancing in my head I got to work like a busy little elf...

The kind folks at LAMPS PLUS sent me this beautiful FILLABLE CLEAR GLASS OVO TABLE LAMP. The lamp base is removable and the lamp can be filled with all sorts of wonderful and creative things!

I have the strangest desire to fill it with colored jellybeans... but that is for another season!

Fillable Clear Glass Ovo Table Lamp

The lamp is so large and  impressive on its own that the real challenge for me was how to fill it and still let the beauty of this lamp show through!

The inspiration for my Holiday Lamp design came from its icy glass and the snowy shade...

so I created a wintery white vignette ...

POINSETTIAS IN THE SNOW

No traditional red and green (but how pretty would that be in this lamp). I decided to show off the softer side of the Christmas season.

And because the lamp has a contemporary feel I wanted to fill it with a little holiday sophistication!

I made a several dozen felt poinsettias...

To see how to make them click HERE.

Most of the poinsettias were used to decorate the barrel lampshade... along with some tiny snowballs, pearls and sparkles...

Every Holiday lamp should have a little sparkle and bling!

Because I want to use the lampshade again I fixed everything to the shade with removable glue dots.

I filled the lamp base with Epson Salts to resemble snow. A frosty vignette of snowy flocked greens, tall ice covered twigs and white poinsettias was positioned in the base of the lamp.

Are you getting in the Christmas mood yet?

I sprayed a little nest with snow and embellished it with flocked greens and twigs and a poinsettia to repeat the elements in the lamp.

I bet you are beginning to hum your favorite Christmas tune, aren't you?

My lamp will stay up for New Year's Day and probable through February! I think it will work for the cold and blustery days of winter too!

Thanks so much  HOMETALK and LAMPS PLUS for asking me participate in the 2013 HOLIDAY DESIGN CHALLENGE.

Head on over to HOMETALK to see some of the other very creative Holiday Lamps!

You can see my HOMETALK feed by clicking HERE.

Now I'm off to the basement to drag up my Christmas Tree!

NO-SEW MONOGRAMMED WOOL THROW DIY

I know it's still August and the idea of wrapping yourself in a beautiful cozy blanket may not hold much allure.

But NOW IS the time to make that beautiful cozy blanket for the cooler weather just around the corner!

This is an easy project that can be completed in just a couple of hours and ... it is NO-SEW!

I am joining a group of very talented and creative bloggers for

NO-SEW DECORATING SHOWCASE...

I'm getting ready for my favorite season... FALL!!!!!

What is more comforting than having a soft blanket to wrap up in against the chill of Autumn?

I'm not talking about a big bulky thick blanket. What I wanted was a soft light throw that would not only be warm but an attractive addition to my living room!

So let's get into the spirit of falling leaves... apple cider... and chilly days by adding warmth to our homes with a monogrammed wool throw!

STONEGABLE NO-SEW MONOGRAMMED WOOL THROW
1.5 yds wool fabric (60 inches wide)
1 roll STITCH WITCHERY fusible bonding tape
Avery Fabric Transfers

I got very lucky at our local Calico Corners Outlet and found two partial bolts of a wonderful cashmere wool blend fabric. I used some of the fabric for my throw.  I'll be using some for my next no-sew project... a wool wrap!

1.  Make a fringe. Fray the 2 shorter ends of the fabric. This is the most time consuming part of this project. I frayed about 1 inch of the fabric to make an attractive fringe. A seam ripper makes it easier to pull the wool threads away from the fabric.

2. The two long ends should be a selvage edges. Iron over a 1/4 inch seam along the salvage edge. Slip in a strip of Stitch Witchery and fold over another 1/4 to 1/2 inch.

3. Iron according to package directions to create a nice finished edge.

4. Make a monogram. I used my digital imaging program. You can make an image and reverse it using Microsoft Word.

IT ALL STARTED WITH PAINT has a great tutorial.

Reverse the image. Print it on a Fabric Transfer sheet and cut out the image. Try to cut it out closely as you can.

5. Follow the Fabric Transfer directions and iron the monogram onto the throw.

TA-DA!

A monogrammed wool throw would also make a smashing gift!

CONVERSATION STARTER NAPKINS DIY

My friend Barb is the best hostess you will ever meet! When she has people over for dinner, which is very very often, she always encourages the greatest conversations around the table.

Barb will ask us to tell our life story in 3 minutes. Well, that's always impossible, so we spend the evening taking turn telling our stories and listening to others. We learn wonderful thing about each other around the dinner table. We find interesting connections and similar interests and life experiences. We also find such fascinating things about people... even people we already know!

I now do the same when I entertain... but with a twist!

As soon as guest see these fun, unusual napkins the conversation starts!

I put a napkin with a different Conversation Starter at each place. I like fun, easy to answer questions to get the conversation around the dinner table started... and it does!

These Conversation Starter Napkins seem to get everyone at my table in a talkative mood!

Try these at your next dinner or family gathering. Wouldn't these make a great hostess gift too?

I designed my conversation starters to be transferred to the napkins on my digital imaging program. You could also use Microsoft word, Picasa or even Picmonkey.

Have fun and be creative!

Make sure to make a "reverse" image of your text.

Here is a copy of 4 of my Conversation Starters in "reverse" image.

Each one is 3 inches. A good size to fit on my napkins.

Print the "reverse" Conversation Starters on fabric transfers according to package directions.

Iron one Conversation Starter on one white napkin according to package directions.

What an easy project...

Don't be surprised if everyone at your table wants to answer all the Conversation Starters... they usually do!
