UPCYCLED DETAILS

Decorating with pops of metal is a big trend right now... and so are garden stools!

I combined the two and brought a big dose of chic to my living room.

This was such an easy project... here's the BEFORE...

This bright yellow garden stool was on super sale... and I used it in my bedroom for several years!

Before the garden stool could decorate the living room it had to go through a transformation.

So out to the driveway it went, and got several thin coats of Rust-Oleum HAMMERED DARK BRONZE

The effect was amazing!!!! It really did have a hammered texture!

Here's a closer look...

So when it was dry, in it came to live next to the ETHAN ALLEN BRANT CHAIR

I'm getting a little spray paint happy around the house these days..I have my eye on an old urn... and a simple night stand that I think would look great upcycled in hammered metallic!

Don't you love little changes that make big differences?

CHRISTMAS PAPERWHITES

Christmas and Paperwhites are a perfect combination.

They are delicate and fragrant snowy blooms that enhance any holiday decor.

One of my bowls of Paperwhites is in full bloom right now...

This year I put a cluster of paperwhites in a large scalloped bowl.

Here's how they looked when I planted them...

This is how the paperwhites looked a week ago...

And this is how they look today. Filled with beautiful blooms...

Snowy, showy clusters of blossoms...

Twigs, I spray painted white, work as stakes to keep the heavy heads upright... and the twigs have a wintery look that work with the paperwhites!

Once the paperwhites started to shoot up I put white and silver balls and pinecones around the base of them to hide the dirt.

Here's a closer look...

My buffet is decorated with lots of mercury glass...

I love love love mercury glass!

This sweet pedestal bowl held a beautiful bouquet of flowers and now it holds greens and pinecones.

A mercury glass votive on a cupcake pedestal is also filled with evergreens and frosty pinecones.

I have six of these darling little pedestals that I got from THE EVERYDAY FARMHOUSE SHOP. Aren't they adorable?

Paperwhites and mercury glass are a new favorite Christmas decor!

It's not too late to plant these easy-to-grow Christmas flowers... click HERE to see how!

If you plant them now you may have beautiful blooms on Christmas morning!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor-- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness...
President George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation, 1789

Of all the blessings I count today... you will be among them!

May you and yours have a happy, safe and blessed Thanksgiving.

FRENCH DRAMA

I am a decorating drama queen! I love love love to bring drama to any decor!

And black is just the perfect way to bring some much needed ohh-la-la to my dining room...

I have been looking for a little "something" for the far corner of my dining room for awhile. So when I saw this lovely french beauty it was in the trunk of my car in no time flat!

Oh, such beautiful legs!

Her name is Margaux and she came from one of my very favorite stores, Ethan Allen. She was a floor model that I got for half price! You know I am addicted to quality at great prices! Ethan Allen has FABULOUS floor sales... and their quality is legendary!

She sits in front of the curtains I made from Ethan Allen fabric (on sale too)! I think the fabric on the seat of Margaux flatters the curtains!

Ohh-la-la!

Adding some black to my very light, neutral living spaces adds depth, richness and grounds the room. So Margaux was just the right touch of drama my dining room needed!

Adding a little bit of rich black to the dining room works well with the black accents in the living room...

which is just across the foyer from the dining room.

And the foyer was recently repainted with black glossy banisters.

Oh, I adore a little bit of sophisticated black!

So welcome lovely Margaux... you are finally home!
