BIG CHANGES AT STONEGABLE... COMING SOON!

I have been keeping a secret for a few months... and it has been hard not to give it away! Thank goodness I can finally tell you today!!!

After 4 1/2 year of blogging and 1,457 posts I am finally moving to WORDPRESS.... and my blog is being totally redesigned!

I have been working with Julie at BLOGGER BOUTIQUE for months to make StoneGable even better and more user friendly! AND  StoneGable will have a new, fresh look without loosing my signature style (lots of big images).

The day has finally come!!!! It is moving day!

So what does that mean for my readers?

It means no new posts for a few days... I have so many posts and pictures to move that the whole process might take up to 3 days!

You can still enjoy all of my past posts and dive into my archives for inspiration... all 1,456 previous posts!

Or you can follow me on FACEBOOKTWITTERPINTEREST or INSTAGRAM where I'll be hanging out!

And when I am finally moved to Wordpress, I will begin posting new material right away. It may take a little while before I learn the Wordpress ropes. So please be patient while I learn how to navigate this new system.

The end goal is to give StoneGable a new, fresh and friendly look and to help bring more and better material to my dear readers.

I love the idea of moving forward and improving StoneGable!

Let's do it together!

EASY AND ORGANIZED BILL PAYING SYSTEM

Do you have an easy bill paying system... or does your mail lay in piles around the house? Are your bills sandwiched between Southern Living magazine and the Ballard Design catalog and lots of messy papers?

I HATE PAYING BILLS!

I don't have a mind for numbers and I think accounting is my own personal h__l!

But I'm not really into the idea of bill collectors calling me on the phone or knocking at my door...

So, I came up with an EASY system to pay all our bills. A system that is very clear cut and organized and doesn't take a lot of time...

I know that many of us have bills paid automatically these days or pay most of our bills online.

What a huge help!

But what about all those paper bills in our mailboxes that continue to come every day?

Don't keep piling them up...

Put all bills in a safe, organized place and then make an appointment with yourself to pay them!

Here's where I keep all of our bills...

In a spiral bound binder with pocket dividers.

You could use a loose leaf binder with pocket dividers, or regular old folders with a rubber band around them.  It really doesn't matter. It's the system that does!

The first file pocket holds stamps, envelopes, and return address labels... as well as a check book.

The second file pocket holds all bills that I must act on NOW!

Like proposals, bills that you think might be wrong, etc.  Deal with them daily... EVERYDAY!

The rest of the file pockets are labeled 1-7, 8-14, 15-21, 22-28 and 29-31... the number of days in the longest months of the year.

When a bill comes to StoneGable I file it in the appropriate pocket by the due date.

Let's say that my monthly car payment is due on the 13th of a certain month... the bill and envelope goes into the pocket labeled

8 ~ 14

Or my annual sorority payment is due on the 20th of a month... this bill along with the envelope goes in the pocket labeled

15~21

File the bill in the pocket that corresponds to the due date.

Do this EVERY DAY for EVERY BILL!

(What do you do with the rest of the mail, you ask? Great question. That was covered in a recent post...

If you do this EVERY DAY for EVERY BILL you will never misplace or lose another bill again!

My mailbox is at the end of our driveway. I sort all the mail in my car or garage and throw away all mail that isn't important before I take it in the house!

Open your mail the day it is delivered and put all bills in the bill paying system!

Now here come the really hard part!!!! You MUST schedule an appointment to pay your bills in a consistent manner!

You need to find a comfortable way to pay your bills according to the money coming into your home.

MAKE A DATE TO PAY YOUR BILLS... AND KEEP IT!

Here's how I do it.

I like to pay bills weekly. I set an hour aside once a week to deal with all upcoming bills!

I like to pay bills 10 days ahead of their due date, especially if I am mailing them.

Remember you are paying bills that are coming due!

So.... If it is the 15th of a month, I subtract 10 from 15 and get 5. Five falls in the 1~7 file pocket range. I pay all the bills in the 1~5 pocket on the 15th... online or by check!
These bills are all due on the next month between the 1st and the 7th.

If it is the 20th of a month, I subtract 10 from 20 and get 10. Ten falls into the 8~14 file pocket range so I pay all the bills in the 8~14 pocket... online or by check!
These are bills that are due on the next month between the 8th and the 14th.

Let's pretend it is the 3th of August. Then I need a calendar and count back 10 days. That would be the 24th.  The twenty-fourth falls in the 22~28 pocket range.
I would pay all the bills in the 22-28 pocket... on line or by check!
These are bills that are due between August 22nd and August 28th!

It's really very very easy!

Remember to set up a bill payment schedule that works for you and be consistent!

I keep my easy and organized bill payment system in a mesh file holder along with my CLUTTER BUSTING FILES!

That is the whole CLUTTER FREE, EASY AND ORGANIZED PAPER AND BILL PAYING SYSTEM!!!  All in one file holder!

A thing of beauty!!!!

NO MORE MESSY PILES OF BILLS

NO MORE LATE BILLS

NO MORE MISPLACED OR LOST BILLS

EASY TO USE SYSTEM

KEEP ORGANIZED

Isn't that EASY and so ORGANIZED! ...I know!

I hope you try this system!

My herbs need snipping and I'll be making some great savory butters to use in recipes and put on meats! Herb butter freezes great so I'll have that wonderful summer taste in the middle of winter!

I could eat Cucumber salad every day. And right now my cukes are growing as fast as the zucchinis! I'll make a big batch... oh, YUMMY!

5 TIPS TO STYLE A COFFEE TABLE LIKE A PRO

I used to feel so out of my element when I styled a coffee table. After years and years of frustration, I was determined to find a way to style a great coffee table... EVERY TIME!

After lots and lots of research and practice I'm now a confident coffee table stylist!!!  I've come up with 5 no-fail tips to style a coffee table like a pro!

We are talking coffee table styling 101! E-A-S-Y and simple to apply! I don't need to style a coffee table worthy of the Biltmore... just one that looks great at StoneGable...

What I found so so surprising is that a coffee table does not have to look like a work of art! It does need to be comfortable, pretty and easy to style!

I also was not going to spend a lot of money to style a coffee table ... so,  I shopped my house for the decor!

With that in mind I came up with a simple 5 steps for coffee table styling.

Let's style my living room coffee table together! This is going to be fun!

Here's the coffee table...

1. USE A TRAY

One of the best design elements to use on a coffee table is a tray!

Trays can be square, rectangle, round, wood, baskets or even acrylic!

They are great to corral decorative items, keeping them neat and organized.

The tray I picked is a soft gold acrylic.

2. ADD LAYERS

Layering objects looks very interesting.

Books are great things to layer. We are going to layer them in the tray from largest to smallest. Keep them neat.

Great! But we're not done layering yet!

3. ADD SOMETHING ORGANIC

Plants and flowers are wonderful organic touches!  Let's layer a small fern on top of the books in the upper left corner.

Now, let's layer a magnifying glass with a horn (organic) handle next to the fern.

Doesn't that make a nice little layered vignette?

4. VARY HEIGHTS

We want to fill  the tray with objects that have differing heights.

We have a nicely layered vignette on the right side of the tray, so let's balance it with elements on the left.

Let's add a big piece of pottery.

The fern is tall, the pottery is medium height, the books are low and the sides of the tray are even lower. This let's our eyes move around the tray and take in all the interesting things in it.

It's very important to style a coffee table using things of varying height.

5. CANDLES

I think every coffee table should give off a little candlelight!

We have just enough space to tuck in a trio of small candles on a long tray in front of the piece of white pottery!

The candles fill up the tray, without it looking crowded!

The tray is done... styled simply and well balanced!

Such pretty ambiance!

But what do we do to the other side of the coffee table? Does that get styled too?

Great question!

Let's balance the tray with one showy piece! A white footed bowl filled with fun baubles.

The bowl and baubles adds another layer of height and it holds organic twig balls in it... reinforcing 3 of the 5 styling tips!  Height, layering and organic elements!

And just for a fun touch, the clear baubles glow in the dark!

Here are a couple other things to keep in mind when styling a coffee table...

COLOR

Using repeated colors will help to make coffee table decor more cohesive.

I used lots of whites and neutrals styling my living room coffee table. These colors work well in my room.

TEXTURE

Using a combination of textures when styling a coffee table makes the design more interesting!

Can you find at least 4 textures on my coffee table?

USE WHAT YOU LOVE!

Only style a coffee table with what you love! Remember it's your creation, your home and you need to enjoy it!!!!

That was EASY wasn't it!  This is coffee table styling 101. Practice and get comfortable using these 5 simple tips!

Styling a coffee table should be simple, easy and created with what you love!!!

What are your favorite things to use when you style a coffee table?
