Welcome to the very first

TUTORIALS TIPS AND TIDBITS

I am so thrilled that you joined me!!!!

Giveaway and Linky are at the end of the post...

What do you do with a basement FULL of old baskets?

I am breathing new life into some of my old Longaberger baskets by painting them!

WARNING...
If you are a Longaberger consultant you might want to skip to the giveaway!

But if you have these collectibles collecting dust in your basement you might want to give painting them a try!

Painting Longaberger Baskets

I chose to let some of the beauty of the baskets original stain to show through, creating more of a washed look than an opaque finish.

First choose a basket you would not mind painting.

Using a clean damp rag, go over the basket removing any dust and stains.

To paint the basket, I used a combo of 50% Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Pure White and 50 % water. Mix.

Wet down an area of the basket with a damp sponge, this helps give the basket a washed look. Paint AS chalk paint over the damp area and lightly wipe over it with a soft dry cloth removing some of the paint. Work your way around your basket.  Work the paintbrush in all the nooks and crannies of the basket.

Paint another layer of watered down AS chalk paint to your basket and continue to wipe some of it off. Keep repeating the process until you like how the paint has accumulated in the creases and is softly rubbed off on the slats.

I used several light layers to achieve this soft warn washed look.

Use a brush that has been wiped of most of the paint and dry brush paint the basket here and there.  You can always use a damp cloth to soften the brush strokes after it has been painted!

Let dry and apply a light coat of clear wax. Gently buff.

I am using this tall spoon basket to hold white geraniums on my potting bench!
