The crisp smell of fall is in the air...and around StoneGable so is the warm aroma of cinnamon and cloves and ginger and vanilla all the warm fragrances associated with Autumn!
Simmering stove-top potpourri is the perfect way to invoke the cozy feeling of fall INSIDE your home!
Inexpensive and easy to make... HARVEST POTPOURRI will keep you home smelling festive through Thanksgiving...
This recipe is not rocket science. A little more or less of the ingredients will still make your home smell heavenly!
STONEGABLE HARVEST POTPOURRI
1 long vanilla bean split and cut into 1/2 pieces
1 whole nutmeg (I keep this and use it when I simmer each pot)
1 whole nutmeg (I keep this and use it when I simmer each pot)
1 spice jar of crystallized ginger
a handful of whole cloves
1 small jar of allspice
a handful of cinnamon sticks
2 oranges peeled and cut into thin slices ( I dry them before adding to potpourri)
handful of star anise
Toss together.
Simmer a few TBS of potpourri in a small pot of water for several minutes. Be careful not to let the water dry up... I usually set a timer for 10 minutes so I do not forget. You may want to keep a watchful eye on your pot the first time to make sure it does not dry up.
Your home will smell absolutely wonderful!
